Why Your Cape Town Business Website Isn’t Getting Enquiries (And How to Fix It)

Your website is live and it looks professional. A few hundred people visit each month. Nobody calls or sends an enquiry.

This is a common complaint from businesses in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and everywhere else. The cause is rarely the look of the site. Something between the visitor and the enquiry is broken, and it is usually one of three things.

Layer 1: Technical problems

Start here, because these are the cheapest to fix and the most expensive to ignore.

  • Forms that fail quietly. A visitor fills in your form, presses send, and nothing reaches you. They assume you ignored them.
  • Emails that go to spam. Your notification or their confirmation lands in a junk folder.
  • Phone numbers that do not dial. On a phone, your number should be a tap-to-call link, and your WhatsApp number should open a chat.
  • Buttons nobody sees. If your call to action blends into the page or sits far down, people never find it.

The fix takes about thirty minutes: submit your own form, call your own number from your phone, and open the site on a phone, a tablet and a laptop.

Layer 2: Messaging problems

A visitor gives you a few seconds. If they cannot tell what you do and why they should trust you, they leave.

  • A vague headline. “Innovative solutions for your business” says nothing. “We design websites for South African schools” says something.
  • Talking to the wrong person. Copy aimed at large companies will not work if your customers are small ones.
  • No proof. Testimonials, real client names and real work give people a reason to pick you over the next business.
  • No clear next step. After reading, should they call, email, WhatsApp or fill in a form? Pick the main one and make it obvious.

Layer 3: Visibility problems

Sometimes the website is fine and the problem is who is arriving.

  • You do not show up on Google for what people in your city search for.
  • You have never run ads or done any promotion.
  • The visitors you do get are not looking for what you sell.

If you want local enquiries over time, start with search engine optimisation. If you want them sooner, look at Google Ads.

A 20 minute check

  1. Submit your contact form. Check your inbox and spam folder ten minutes later.
  2. Call your number from your phone. Does it dial?
  3. Open the site on three devices and find the main button on each.
  4. Show your homepage to someone outside your business and ask what you do. If it takes them more than one sentence, rewrite the headline.
  5. Look in Google Analytics at where visitors come from and how many reach your contact page.
  6. Check Google Search Console to see what searches you appear for.

Each step points to a specific fix, and most of them are quick.

If you would like a second pair of eyes, our marketing diagnostic reviews your website, search, ads and numbers and gives you a plan in order of priority.
